[신은 디테일에있다]라는 말이 있습니다. 또한 근간에는 [악마는 디테일에 있다]라는 말도 생겨났습니다. 본래의 의미가 어떻든 저는 이 두 말을 크리에이티브의 관점에서 들여다 보곤 합니다.
[신]은 크리에이티브를 위한 영감이나 혹은 크리에이티브 그 자체 라고 할 수 있습니다.
대상의 깊이있는 이해와 끊임없는 브레인스토밍, 끌을 파는 집념을 통해 팀은 신을 영접하는 영광을 누릴 수 있습니다. 그리고 이때 이 과정을 순탄하게 이끄는 힘이 CD의 능력이라고 확신합니다.
그러면,악마는 어디있을까요?
수 많은 의견의 아규와 혼란, 참신하지만 목적에서 벗어난 아이디어, 관성과 타협, 합리화 등 디테일을 더 할수록 숨겨진 장애물은 속속 악마의 모습을 드러냅니다. 디테일의 힘을 믿지만 장애물을 극복하기 위해서는 맥락에서 핵심을 찾아 연결하고 매 순간 올바른 큰 그림을 제시하는 CD의 통찰력과 리더십이 절실합니다. 창조를 위해 신을 살리고 악마를 죽이는 일, CD가 무거운 책임감으로 크리에이티브에 임하는 자세입니다.
How I work for creativity.
There is this saying ‘ The God is in the detail ’. More recently, some people also say that ‘The Devil is in the detail ’. Regardless of the original meaning of those two proverbs, I tend to look at those two phrases from a creative perspective. The ‘God’ can be understood as the inspiration or the core of ‘creative’ itself. With a deeper understanding of the subject, endless brainstorming, and the infinite dedication to the subject, a team can enjoy the honor of meeting and welcoming ‘ God ’ himself. And I am sure that the power to lead this process smoothly towards success lies in the ability of CD ’s. So, where is the devil? It ’s quite simple. If you add more details to the process, you will eventually face the chaotic experience where your team’s overall performance is hindered by ‘too many’ ideas, unique but irrelevant ideas, inertia, and rationalization. Ironically, the more details you add to the process, you are more likely to meet these hidden obstacles, which is, the ‘Devil’ himself. Although I believe in the power of detail, I also firmly believe that to overcome these obstacles, the insight and leadership of a CD is crucial for the team to find the exact point inside the context, connect those key points, and see the big picture throughout the entire process. In my eyes, the job of a creative director is simple yet very important. It’s about ‘saving God’ and ‘killing the Devil’ for the sake of creation. And I believe I am ready to take that responsibility.
